Kasuku Stories
Kasuku Stories is an app designed to help kids aged 3-6 build a love for reading and learning through story-based exploration and play. Kasuku stories starts out as a storybook, reading stories to your children. The various learning activities then adapt to the stories your child is reading, making use of the words, imagery, and content of those stories to teach basic reading, writing, and counting.
Kasuku stories also helps build good digital habits. It is designed to be non-addictive, actively shutting down activities before your kids get screen-cranky, and encouraging your child to put the tablet down when meaningful learning is over.
In 2017, Kasuku Stories was named one of 11 seminfinalists in the Global Learning XPRIZE. It is available for IOS devices.
Grand Challenges
How can a child learn to read or write if they don't have easy access to schools or teachers? Traditional models of learning are simply not scalable, especially in areas with limited access to quality schooling. We simply cannot build enough schools or train enough teachers to deal with the huge global demand for educating our children. We are at a pivotal moment where an alternative, radical approach is necessary in order to avoid losing entire generations to illiteracy. We believe that technology can supplement the existing approaches to delivering education, filling in the gaps until we are able to solve the larger challenges of scaling literacy education.
Global Learning
The $15M Global Learning XPRIZE was a competition that challenged teams from around the world to develop open source software solutions to help move the literacy bar for children around the world. As part of this challenge, teams designed software running on Android tablets that could help children learn the basics of reading, writing, and math without access to schools or teachers.
On June 21, 2017, Learn Leap Fly was named as one of the 11 semi-finalists in the Global Learning XPRIZE.
Technology for Social Good
The $5 million IBM Watson AI XPRIZE is a global competition challenging teams to develop and demonstrate how humans can collaborate with powerful AI technologies to tackle the world’s Grand Challenges, including education.
In November, 2018, Learn Leap Fly became one of 30 teams advancing to round 3 of the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE, be demonstrating how machine learning can be used to build engaging, non-addictive technologies for learning.
